Trayce Jackson-Davis’ putback with 42.1 seconds left Wednesday night capped a 25-point, 21-rebound game for the Indiana star as he carried the visiting Hoosiers to a 61-57 Big Ten Conference win over Minnesota in Minneapolis.

Jackson-Davis rebounded the miss of Race Thompson’s free throw and powered it home to snap a tie and lift Indiana (14-6, 5-4 Big Ten) to its fourth straight win. Trey Galloway sank both ends of a one-and-one with 8.2 seconds remaining to seal the outcome.

Jackson-Davis also blocked six shots for the Hoosiers, who held the Golden Gophers (7-12, 1-8) without a field goal after Jamison Battle drained a 3-pointer with 6:22 left to give them a 55-54 edge.

Miller Kopp added 11 points for Indiana and Malik Reneau chipped in 10. The Hoosiers won despite making only 41.1 percent of their attempts from the field. Jalen Hood-Schifino, their second-leading scorer, made only 2 of 11 shots and scored just six points in 38 minutes.

Battle tallied 20 points, hitting 4 of 9 from 3-point range and playing the full 40 minutes for Minnesota. The Gophers canned only 22 of 64 shots from the field and missed six of their 14 free throws.

The pregame storyline concerned who wasn’t on hand instead of who was. Minnesota played without frontcourt starters Dawson Garcia and Pharrel Payne due to injury, while Indiana coach Mike Woodson didn’t make the trip because of COVID-19. Associate coach Yasir Rosemond ran the club in Woodson’s absence.

The Gophers established right away that they wouldn’t roll over with only seven scholarship players available. They kept the pace slow and were able to frustrate the Hoosiers with some scrappy defense.

Minnesota led 24-18 with six minutes left in the half after a foul shot by Taurus Samuels, but Indiana was
able to lash together a 15-6 run to close the half. Kopp sent the Hoosiers to the locker room with a 33-30 lead when he stuck a 3-pointer with five seconds remaining.
