Jaden Ivey hit a fadeaway 3-pointer with 0.6 seconds left after No. 6 Purdue blew a 20-point second-half lead to give the Boilermakers an 81-78 win over No. 16 Ohio State in West Lafayette, Ind., on Sunday.
The Buckeyes (13-5, 6-3 Big Ten) tied it on consecutive 3-pointers by E.J. Liddell in the last 35 seconds before Ivey scored the final three of his game-high 21 points for the Boilermakers (18-3, 7-3). Purdue, which has won three straight, also got 20 points from Zach Edey.
Liddell and Malaki Branham each had 20 points for Ohio State. Liddell made it 78-78 with 25 seconds left after a steal by Branham, but Ivey’s heroics ended the Buckeyes’ three-game winning streak.
Purdue led 39-30 at the break and blitzed the Buckeyes to start the second half, outscoring them 13-2 in the first 4 1/2 minutes for its largest lead, 52-32. The Buckeyes eventually got it within 76-72 on a jumper by Liddell after Branham had scored the previous nine Ohio State points.
No. 11 Wisconsin 66, Minnesota 60
Johnny Davis had 16 points and 15 rebounds, including the game’s final six points, to help the host Badgers hold off the Golden Gophers in a Big Ten Conference game in Madison, Wis.
E.J. Stephens hit a 3-pointer followed by a pair of free throws to pull Minnesota even at 60-60 with 2:23 left. Davis scored on a layup and then hit the second of two free throws. His stepback jumper put the Badgers up five with 23 seconds left.
Tyler Wahl had 15 points, Brad Davison scored 14 points and Steven Crowl had 11 as Wisconsin (17-3, 8-2 Big Ten) won for the ninth time in 10 games and moved into a first-place tie with Illinois. Payton Willis had 17 points and Jamison Battle added 14 points and 10 rebounds for Minnesota (11-7, 2-7), which has lost six of seven.
No. 17 Providence 65, No. 22 Marquette 63
Nate Watson’s late-game takeover finished off a second-half comeback as the Friars topped the visiting Golden Eagles to improve to 13-0 at home this season.
Watson scored seven of the last 10 points for Providence (18-2, 8-1 Big East) and finished with 17. Justin Minaya added 14 points, and Al Durham and Noah Horchler each chipped in 11 for Providence.
Justin Lewis had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds but missed a floater in the paint, snapping a seven-game winning streak for Marquette (15-7, 7-4). Darryl Morsell paced Marquette with 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting, and Tyler Kolek and Lewis both added 13 points and six rebounds. The Golden Eagles hit just 5 of 19 shots from 3-point range.
