Purdue guards Fletcher Loyer and Braden Smith combined for 53 points to support big man Zach Edey as the No. 3 Boilermakers handed No. 1 Arizona its first loss 92-84 on Saturday in Indianapolis.
Loyer tied his career high with 27 points and Smith put in 26 as Purdue (10-1) built a 15-point second-half lead. The Wildcats (8-1) then went to a 2-3 zone that put a chill on the Boilermakers’ outside shooting and climbed within four points.
Edey, last season’s national player of the year, stepped up while his teammates struggled, scoring 10 of 16 Purdue points during a late stretch. Edey finished with 22 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Caleb Love scored 29 points to lead Arizona, while Keshad Johnson had 24 points and eight rebounds.
Purdue won its first game against a No. 1-ranked team since beating Arizona in Indianapolis in November 2000.
No. 2 Kansas 75, Indiana 71
Kevin McCullar Jr. scored 13 of his team-high 21 points as the Jayhawks came back from a 13-point, second-half deficit to defeat the host Hoosiers in Bloomington, Ind.
Kansas won for the first time in four attempts in Assembly Hall, which opened in 1971, in this matchup of two of the 10 winningest programs in college basketball history. The Jayhawks (10-1) got 17 points from Hunter Dickinson, 14 from KJ Adams Jr. and 12 from Dajuan Harris Jr. Dickinson also pulled down 14 rebounds.
The Hoosiers (7-3) got a career-high 28 points from Trey Galloway. Mackenzie Mgbako added 14, Malik Reneau had 13 and Kel’el Ware had 12. Ware added 15 rebounds.
No. 4 Houston 70, Texas A&M 66
Emanuel Sharp’s 21 points included a 3-pointer and two key free throws in the final 30 seconds as the Cougars outlasted the gritty Aggies in the Halal Guys Showcase in Houston.
The Cougars (11-0) led by 15 points at halftime and by 21 with 4 1/2 minutes gone in the second half. L.J. Cryer scored 17 points for the Cougars while Shead had 12 and J’Wan Roberts hit for 10 points and took down 11 rebounds.
Wade Taylor IV led all scorers with 34 points, with Coleman grabbing 12 rebounds for Texas A&M (7-4).
Michigan State 88, No. 6 Baylor 64
Tyson Walker scored a game-high 25 points and the Spartans opened a 30-point lead in the first half en route to a stunning rout of the Bears in Detroit.
A.J. Hoggard added 14 points and Tre Holloman contributed 11 off the bench for the Spartans (5-5), who resembled the No. 4 ranked team they were prior to starting 4-5 and falling out of the Top 25. Michigan State sank 63.3 percent of its field goal attempts and earned a 29-20 advantage on the boards.
RayJ Dennis and Yves Missi each scored 11 points for the Bears (9-1), but it wasn’t nearly enough to even attain respectability. Baylor entered the day fourth in scoring average at more than 91 points per game but was overwhelmed at both ends of the court all day long.
No. 8 Creighton 85, Alabama 82
Trey Alexander scored 22 points and Baylor Scheierman added 20 points, nine assists and six rebounds to help the Bluejays beat the Crimson Tide in Omaha, Neb.
Ryan Kalkbrenner scored 17 of his 19 points in the second half to fuel Creighton (9-2). He was 9-of-11 shooting and had eight rebounds and three blocked shots despite missing the final 13 minutes of the first half with an ankle injury.
Mark Sears scored 19 points for Alabama (6-4), and he nearly forced overtime, but his last-second, 35-foot 3-pointer went in-and-out and hit the glass before falling off.
No. 14 Kentucky 87, No. 9 North Carolina 83
Rob Dillingham scored 17 points off the bench and the Wildcats led almost the entire game but had a tussle down the stretch to defeat the Tar Heels at Atlanta.
D.J. Wagner had 14 points, Aaron Bradshaw notched 12 points and Reed Sheppard posted 11 points for the Wildcats (8-2), who shot just 41.7 percent from the field.
RJ Davis poured in 27 points and Cormac Ryan tallied 20 points for North Carolina (7-3). Harrison Ingram added 10 points.
No. 11 Oklahoma 81, Green Bay 47
Rivaldo Soares had 13 points to lead the Sooners past the Phoenix in Norman, Okla.
The Sooners (10-0) stayed undefeated to extend their best start since 2016. The Phoenix (5-7) lost for the third time in four games.
David Douglas Jr. led Green Bay with 13 points while Noah Reynolds added 11.
No. 12 Tennessee 79, NC State 70
Josiah-Jordan James notched a season-high 23 points to help the Volunteers top the Wolfpack in a neutral-site nonconference clash at the Hall of Fame Series in San Antonio, Texas.
James shot 6-for-10 from the floor, sank five 3-pointers and went 6-for-6 from the charity stripe as Tennessee (8-3) won its fourth straight game. The Volunteers also got a season-high 20 points from Zakai Zeigler, who also had eight assists and sank four 3-pointers. Jahmai Mashack added 11 points, while Tobe Awaka grabbed 12 rebounds.
NC State (7-3) was powered by 16 points from DJ Horne, and 15 points, five rebounds and five assists from DJ Burns Jr. Jayden Taylor chipped in 11 points for NC State.
Memphis 79, No. 13 Clemson 77
David Jones scored 16 of his 22 points after halftime as host Memphis knocked Clemson from the ranks of the unbeaten.
Jahvon Quinerly scored 17 points as Memphis (8-2) erased a seven-point halftime deficit and overcame missing 22 of 26 3-point tries. Nick Jourdain added 11 and Jaykwon Walton chipped in 10 as Memphis shot 43.3 percent from the floor.
PJ Hall scored 21 for Clemson (9-1) but missed a potential tying 3 in the final seconds. Chauncey Wiggins added a career-high 19 as Clemson was denied its first 10-0 start since winning the first 16 games in 2008-09.

Johnell Davis scored 16 points to lift the Owls past the Bonnies in Springfield, Mass.
Vladislav Goldin added 11 points, including 4 of 4 from the field, and collected seven rebounds for the Owls (9-2).
Moses Flowers scored 12 points while Assa Essamvous and Chad Venning scored 11 points each for St. Bonaventure (7-3), which had its five-game winning streak snapped.
No. 18 BYU 86, Georgia State 54
Richie Saunders netted a career-high 20 points and the Cougars scored more than half of their points from 3-point territory in a win over the Panthers in Provo, Utah.
BYU (10-1), the Division I leader in 3-point makes and attempts per game, hit 15 of 38 (39.5 percent) shots from deep while improving to 7-0 at the Marriott Center. Trevin Knell scored 15 points with the help of three treys, Noah Waterman had 13 points with three 3-pointers and six rebounds and Dallin Hall drained four triples for 12 points.
Dwon Odom scored 12 points with 10 rebounds and Lucas Taylor contributed 10 points for Georgia State (4-6), but the Panthers only shot 37 percent from the field and made just 6 of 21 3-pointers.
No. 19 Texas 96, LSU 85
Max Abmas poured in 20 points and Dylan Disu added 17 in his first action of the season to help the Longhorns to a win over the Tigers in the Halal Guys Showcase in Houston.
Texas (8-2) led by 19 points after a prodigious 56-point first half and by 22 soon after halftime. Tyrese Hunter added a season-high 19 points for Texas, which also got 12 points and 10 rebounds from Dillon Mitchell.
Jordan Wright led the Tigers (6-5) with a career-high 33 points, with all but two coming after halftime.
No. 20 James Madison 88, Hampton 71
Xavier Brown came off the bench to score 17 points and help rally the Dukes to a victory over the host Pirates in Hampton, Va.
Michael Green III supplied 16 points and eight assists, while T.J. Bickerstaff added 12 points and six rebounds as James Madison (10-0) rallied from a 10-point deficit in the first half to continue its best start in program history. Jaylen Carey had his first double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Noah Freidel added 13 points and eight rebounds.
Kyrese Mullen registered his sixth double-double this season with 14 points and 12 rebounds for Hampton (4-6). Jerry Deng contributed 18 points for the Pirates and Tedrick Wilcox Jr. added 11 points.
No. 22 Virginia 56, Northeastern 54
Reece Beekman banked a short jump shot off the glass with five seconds left to propel the Cavaliers to a come-from-behind victory over the Huskies.
Beekman finished with 21 points, six rebounds and five assists as Virginia (9-1) rallied from a 13-point deficit in the second half to capture its fifth straight victory.
Joe Pridgen had 11 points and 13 rebounds while Chris Doherty added 12 points and nine rebounds for Northeastern (4-7), which was gunning for its third win over a ranked team in program history.
No. 24 Miami 84, La Salle 77
Wooga Poplar shook off an injury scare to score a career-high 25 points as the Hurricanes posted a win over the visiting Explorers.
Norchad Omier collected 23 points and eight rebounds — including six on the offensive glass — for the Hurricanes (8-2). Matthew Cleveland added 14 points and nine rebounds and Nijel Pack had 11 points and a team-high seven assists. Poplar injured his left foot with 25 seconds left in the first half. He limped off the court but returned to start the second half.
The game was a matchup between two veteran coaches, and the “younger” guy won as Miami’s Jim Larranaga, 74, defeated Fran Dunphy, 75. Combined, they have more than 1,300 wins. La Salle (8-3) was led by Khalil Brantley, who scored 23 points. Daeshon Shepherd added 15 points and Jhamir Brickus added a game-high eight assists.
No. 25 Northwestern 56, DePaul 46
Nick Martinelli scored 16 points and Ryan Langborg chipped in 14 to boost the Wildcats to a win against the host Blue Demons in Chicago.
Northwestern (8-2) recovered from Wednesday’s upset loss to visiting Chicago State by defeating the Blue Demons for the sixth time in the past seven meetings.
Cold second-half shooting prevented the Blue Demons (2-8) from sticking around after playing the Wildcats evenly in the first half. Jeremiah Oden led DePaul with 12 points, while Chico Carter Jr. followed with 11 before leaving the game after suffering an apparent ankle injury with 2:36 to go.
