South Carolina forward Myles Stute will miss two to three weeks with a left shoulder strain, the school said Thursday.

Stute was injured during the second half of Tuesday’s 74-69 loss to Georgia.

Coach Lamont Paris said the injury was pinpointed during an MRI exam.

“Honestly, having watched the play, I think we dodged a major bullet just because it is the type of injury that could certainly be season-ending, easily,” Paris said during an interview with a Columbia (S.C.) radio station.

Stute had five points in 19 minutes before departing the contest.

Overall, Stute is averaging 9.9 points and 3.9 rebounds while starting all 17 games for the Gamecocks (14-3, 2-2 Southeastern Conference). He is shooting a team-best 38.8 percent from 3-point range and is second on the squad with 31 3-pointers.

Stute is in his first season with South Carolina after playing his first three college campaigns at Vanderbilt.

The Gamecocks visit Arkansas on Saturday in SEC play.
