Ryan Kalkbrenner shot 10-for-10 for 23 points as No. 12 Creighton took over third place in the Big East Conference by laying waste to visiting Seton Hall 85-64 on Wednesday in Omaha, Neb.
Baylor Scheierman had 20 points and 11 rebounds and Trey Alexander piled up 15 points, 10 assists and five rebounds for the Bluejays (21-8, 12-6 Big East), who were an overwhelming 16-for-22 (72.7 percent) during the second half before emptying their bench.
Reserve Isaac Traudt scored 11 points on 3-for-3 shooting from long range. Steven Ashworth scored 10 and Kalkbrenner added six rebounds in his second career 10-for-10 game.
Creighton outshot Seton Hall 54.4 percent to 41.7 percent overall and made 13 3-pointers, while the Pirates went just 2-for-9.
Dre Davis fought through foul trouble to deliver 18 points and eight rebounds, both team highs for Seton Hall. Kadary Richmond scored 15 points and Al-Amir Dawes 13 as the Pirates (18-10, 11-6) saw their three-game winning streak come to a halt.
Creighton held a 14-11 lead when Traudt entered the game and hit back-to-back 3-pointers 30 seconds apart. Ashworth got in on the action from the corner and Kalkbrenner dunked to make it an 11-0 run and a 14-point advantage.
Richmond’s three-point play ended that stretch, and Seton Hall got within nine before allowing Scheierman to drill a pair of 3-pointers. Soon Kalkbrenner’s bucket made it 38-18, though Seton Hall trimmed it to 38-22 by halftime.
After an alley-oop to Kalkbrenner made it a 45-26 game, the Bluejays rattled off a 10-0 run in less than 1:40 to make it a 55-28 margin with 14:51 left to play.
Seton Hall got no closer than 19 points the rest of the way.
When Scheierman buried a 3-pointer with 7:08 to go, he surpassed 1,000 points in his two-year Creighton career, becoming the 11th player in Division I history to score 1,000 at two different schools. He began his career at South Dakota State.
