Providence starting point guard Jared Bynum entered the transfer portal on Monday, multiple reports said.
Bynum’s decision came mere hours after former Providence coach Ed Cooley was announced as the next head coach at Georgetown.
Bynum averaged 10.0 points, 4.3 assists and 2.4 rebounds per game in 29 games (24 starts) in 2022-23, his third season at Providence. The Friars reached the NCAA Tournament as a No. 11 seed and lost to Kentucky in the first round last week.
After playing one season at St. Joseph’s and sitting out the 2019-20 campaign in order to transfer to Providence, Bynum has one year of eligibility remaining, the so-called COVID year given by the NCAA to all student-athletes after 2020.
Bynum has career averages of 10.3 points, 4.2 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game over 108 career games (76 starts).
Bynum is a native of Largo, Md., and attended high school at Georgetown Prep.
