Pittsburgh guard Ithiel Horton was arrested this weekend after allegedly assaulting a police officer.
He was charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness, according to records obtained by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
When police responded to reports of an altercation between a motorist and a tow truck driver at about 1 a.m. ET on Saturday, Horton “punched a responding officer in the face, causing a laceration to his lip,” records show.
Horton, 21, fled the scene on foot before being arrested and taken to Allegheny County Jail.
The 6-foot-5 junior is the Panthers’ top returning scorer after averaging 8.9 points in 22 games (18 starts) in 2020-21. Horton sat out the 2019-20 season after transferring from Delaware, where he averaged 13.2 points in 33 games (23 starts) in 2018-19.
“We are aware of a report regarding one of our student-athletes, but will decline comment until additional information is gathered,” the school said in a statement released Saturday.
Pitt opens the 2021-22 regular season at home Tuesday against The Citadel.
