NCAAB: Oklahoma starts fast in 70-50 win over Texas-Arlington

Umoja Gibson had 14 points and a season-high eight rebounds to lead Oklahoma to a 70-50 win over Texas-Arlington on Sunday in Norman, Okla

The Sooners have won five of their past six games. The Mavericks have lost back-to-back games.

Oklahoma (9-2) jumped out to a big lead right off the bat, scoring the game’s first 11 points, six on a pair of 3-pointers by Gibson.

The Sooners shot 54.9 percent from the floor, while the Mavericks shot just 34 percent.

UT-Arlington missed its first nine field goals, not scoring until more than seven minutes into the game and not hitting a shot from the field until nearly eight minutes had passed.

The Mavericks (3-7) were just 1 of 14 from the floor over the first 12 minutes, missing all five of their 3-pointers.

David Azore scored UT-Arlington’s first six points. The Mavericks didn’t get points from another player until more than 12 minutes into the game.

Oklahoma led by as many as 22 points before UT-Arlington scored the final five points of the half to cut the Sooners’ lead to 35-18 at the break.

Oklahoma shot 59.1% (13 of 22) from the floor but had nine turnovers in the first half. The Sooners finished with 17 turnovers.

Gibson scored 11 of his points in the first half, going 3 of 4 from behind the 3-point line.

The Mavericks didn’t score more than five consecutive points at any time in the game, preventing them from ever making a big dent in Oklahoma’s lead. The Sooners led by as many as 28 points in the second half.

Tanner Groves added 13 points for the Sooners while Jalen Hill added 12. Jordan Goldwire had six assists and three steals in the win.

Oklahoma outrebounded UT-Arlington 35-26.

Azore led the Mavericks with 15 points while Patrick Mwamba added 10.

Kaodirichi Akobundu-Ehiogu had a pair of blocks. He has had multiple blocks in nine of UT-Arlington’s 10 games.
