Illinois center Kofi Cockburn is out for Friday’s game at Maryland with a concussion and could miss more time.

Fighting Illini head coach Brad Underwood said Cockburn’s status would be reviewed before Tuesday’s game against Michigan State in Champaign, Ill.

He’s averaging 21.1 points and 11.8 rebounds per game this season.

Cockburn sustained a concussion Monday in Illinois’ 96-88 double-overtime loss to Purdue. He did not travel with the team to College Park, Md.

No. 17 Illinois (13-4, 6-1 Big Ten) received big minutes from Benjamin Bosmans-Verdonk against Purdue.

Cockburn collected 23 points and 18 rebounds in Illinois’ 81-71 win over Maryland at home on Jan. 11.

Illinois played long stretches of Monday’s game without Cockburn due to foul trouble, and the Fighting Illini have also survived multiple-game absences from the 7-footer, including a season-opening suspension in 2021-22.
