Joey Hauser scored 22 points, including the 1,000th point of his career, as Michigan State downed visiting Brown 68-50 in East Lansing, Mich., on Saturday afternoon.

Hauser shot 9 for 13 from the field and added five rebounds and four assists for the Spartans (7-4). A.J. Hoggard contributed 17 points, four rebounds and four assists, while Tyson Walker added 10 points.

Paxson Wojcik, son of Spartans assistant coach Doug Wojcik, led Brown with 10 points, 13 rebounds and four assists. Malachi Ndur also scored 10 points for the Bears (6-5), who saw their five-game winning streak snapped. Brown was held to 33.3 percent shooting.

Midway through the first half, the Spartans were up by just one at 11-10. They went on a 7-0 spurt including a 3-pointer from Jaden Akins.

They soon had a 7-1 run, including five points from Hoggard, for a 29-15 lead.

Kino Lilly Jr. scored Brown’s last points of the half on a 3-pointer with 2:56 remaining. Those were the only points for Lilly, who entered as the Bears’ leading scorer.

Michigan State was only able to muster three points in the last three minutes, another 3-pointer from Akins.

The Spartans led 32-18 at the break despite shooting 38.7 percent from the field. The Bears made just seven of 30 field goal attempts.

Hauser made a 3-pointer in the opening minute of the second half to increase Michigan State’s advantage to 17 points. Hauser scored two baskets in the lane in the first seven minutes of the half to creep closer to the milestone.

PIerre Brooks gave the Spartans a 20-point lead on a tip-in with 14 minutes left.

Hauser reached the milestone when he knocked down an elbow jumper with 10:59 remaining. That began an 11-0 run.

Akins hit another 3-pointer, Hoggard made a pair of layups and Hauser capped it with another layup for a 57-31 lead.

Michigan State and Brown were meeting for just the second time. The Spartans posted a 45-34 win in East Lansing on Nov. 8, 2006.
