Sophomore Ezra Manjon scored a career-high 27 points to lead UC Davis to a 71-64 win over Oregon State on Tuesday in Corvallis, Ore., extending the Beavers’ losing streak to nine games.
Manjon’s 17 second-half points helped the Aggies (5-3) take control of the game.
Caleb Fuller had 15 points and Elijah Pepper finished with seven points and 10 rebounds for UC Davis.
Oregon State (1-9) was led by Jarod Lucas’ 14 points. Dashawn Davis finished with 13 points, seven rebounds and six assists, and Ahmad Rand contributed 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Oregon State, which advanced to the Elite Eight last season, led at halftime for the first time this season, holding a 30-28 advantage.
The Beavers, who had eight players score in the first half, were led by Rand’s eight first-half points on 3-of-3 shooting from the field.
UC Davis outscored Oregon State 22-7 to start the second half, building a 50-37 lead with 13:17 remaining.
Manjon had nine points in that surge for the Aggies, whose defense limited Oregon State to 3-of-12 shooting from the field during the stretch.
Twice after Oregon State cut the deficit to five points in the second half, Manjon responded to thwart the Beavers.
His two baskets helped fuel a 7-0 run that put UC Davis ahead 64-52 with 5:41 left.
A layup by Xzavier Malone-Key with 5:31 remaining was Oregon State’s first made field goal since 9:32 remained.
After Pepper hit a 3-pointer to give UC Davis a 67-58 lead with 3:50 remaining, the Aggies went into a shooting drought, missing on four straight possessions.
Rand made 1 of 2 free-throw attempts to cut the lead to 67-62 with 1:12 left.
Fuller answered by sinking a layup with 43 seconds left to break the Aggies’ cold-shooting spell.
UC Davis hit 50.9 percent from the field in the game compared to 42.9 percent for Oregon State, which made only 5 of 17 shots from 3-point range. The Aggies were 4 of 12 from beyond the arc.
