Cornell promoted associate head coach Jon Jaques to fill its head-coaching vacancy on Friday.

Jaques, 36, rose to the top job after spending the past 12 seasons on the coaching staff of his alma mater. He was a starter and team captain on the 2010 Cornell team that made a surprise run to the Sweet 16.

Brian Earl had served as Cornell’s head coach since 2016 before taking the same job at William & Mary this offseason.

“On and off the court, this community and program have given me many of my most cherished memories, experiences, relationships and life lessons,” Jaques said in a statement. “… I’m eager to build on our program’s clear forward momentum and continue to compete in a way that our alumni, students, and supporters can be proud of.”

The Big Red are coming off a 22-8 season (11-3 Ivy League) that saw them play in the NIT.
