Caleb Grill scored 20 points, capped by a tiebreaking 3-pointer from the top of the key with 33 seconds left, to lead No. 25 Iowa State to a 63-60 win over Oklahoma on Wednesday in Norman, Okla.

The Sooners caught a break in the closing seconds after Jalen Hill’s putback pulled Oklahoma within one with eight seconds remaining.

On the ensuing inbounds play, Oklahoma’s Milos Uzan and Iowa State’s Tamin Lipsey collided as the ball was thrown in. The ball glanced off Lipsey’s fingertips and out of bounds, giving the Sooners the ball back.

However, Oklahoma turned the ball right back over, as Bijan Cortes’ lob attempt on the inbounds hit off Hill’s arm for a turnover.

After Iowa State’s Osun Osunniyi sank two free throws, the Sooners had one last chance to tie it, but Tanner Groves’ step-back 3-point attempt at the buzzer bounced off the rim.

Grill sank 5 of 9 3-point attempts for the Cyclones (11-2, 2-0 Big 12), who got 12 points and eight rebounds from Osunniyi and 10 points from Jaren Holmes.

Hill led the Sooners (9-5, 0-2) with 16 points, while Groves added 15 points and eight rebounds. Cortes scored 10 points.

The Cyclones started the game with a 25-7 run that included a trio of 3-pointers by Grill.

While Iowa State began hot from the floor, Oklahoma struggled on offense. The Sooners started 2 of 8 from the floor, were outrebounded 9-4 early and turned the ball over three times during that initial push — all leading to points on the other end for the Cyclones.

Less than eight minutes into the game, Oklahoma starting point guard and leading scorer Grant Sherfield picked up two fouls in the span of less than a minute, sending him to the bench until late in the first half.

But the Sooners didn’t fade away, ripping off a 20-0 run over nine minutes to take the lead. Cortes scored eight points during that stretch.

Sherfield, who had scored 20 or more points in five of his past six games, was held to a season-low four points on 1-of-7 shooting.
