NCAAB: Braelen Bridges leads Georgia in resounding win over Hampton

Braelen Bridges had 21 points and 13 rebounds as Georgia equaled its win total of all of last season with a 73-54 victory over visiting Hampton on Wednesday in Athens, Ga.

Bridges shot 9 of 13 from the field, while Terry Roberts chipped in 16 points, six rebounds and five assists for the Bulldogs (6-2), who went 6-26 last season.

Jailyn Ingram added 14 points, his first scoring since suffering a season-ending torn right anterior cruciate ligament in December of last year. He was scoreless in four minutes of action in his season debut against East Tennessee State on Sunday.

The Bulldogs, who led by as many as 21 points in the second half, shot 24 of 54 (44.4 percent) from the field, including an impressive 10 of 20 (50 percent) from 3-point range, in addition to outrebounding the Pirates 44-35.

Hampton (1-6), which has lost five straight games, was led by Jordan Nesbitt’s 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Amir Nesbitt finished with 10 points and three rebounds. Russell Dean added nine points, three rebounds and three assists.

The Pirates shot 21 of 67 (31.3 percent) from the field, including a dreadful 2 of 16 (12.5 percent) from beyond the arc.

Leading 49-37 with 11:27 left in the second half, Georgia put the game away by going on an 11-2 run to take a 60-39 lead following Jusaun Holt’s 3-pointer with 6:27 to go.

Georgia scored the first eight points and never looked back, stretching its lead to 22-9 after Bridges’ layup with 10:44 left in the first half. The Bulldogs led by as many as 17 in the opening 20 minutes before taking a 41-26 advantage into halftime.

Ingram had 11 first-half points while Roberts added nine for Georgia, which shot 13 of 27 (48.1 percent) from the field, including 8 of 14 (57.1 percent) from beyond the arc.

Hampton was led by Jordan Nesbitt and Dean, who scored seven points apiece.

The Pirates shot 12 of 36 (33.3 percent) from the field, including missing all seven of their 3-point attempts.
