Four days after winning the NBA 2K League’s The Tipoff, Warriors Gaming was back in action Wednesday, highlighting the 12-game slate on the first day of group play for The Turn.
And it didn’t take the Warriors long to let the field know they have their eyes on this title, too, beating Jazz Gaming 73-62. Jaden “Nay” Bhopal led a balanced scoring effort with 24 points in the win and added 14 rebounds and five assists.
The Turn is the second of three tournaments that lead up to the NBA 2K League 5v5 Playoffs that run June 26-29. Last week, Warriors Gaming won The Tipoff. The Turn runs through June 15 and the final tournament, The Ticket, is on June 18 and 22.
Group play results will determine bracket seeding for The Turn, which carries a $160,000 prize pool.
The Tipoff’s runner-up, Raptors Uprising GC, didn’t have the same result as the Warriors. Up five at halftime, 76ers GC scored 51 points in the second half to down the Raptors 83-64. DJ “DJ” Jones and Andre “Dre” Marshall scored 22 apiece for the 76ers, while Samuel “Gradient” Salyers added 20 in the win.
Among the day’s standout individual performances, Benjamin “Benzo” Bernstein scored 40 points and handed out 23 assists to lead Wizards District Gaming to a 103-85 thumping of Hornets Venom GT.
Celtics Crossover Gaming topped Magic Gaming 78-73 behind another big effort — Leche “Leche” Jamous’ 38 points on 60-percent shooting and nine assists. Caesar “Ceez” Martinez led Pacers Gaming to a 67-52 win over Blazer5 Gaming with 33 points and six assists.
In the day’s other games, Cavs Legion GC edged Knicks Gaming 71-70; Grizz Gaming topped DUX Infinitos 76-72; Mavs Gaming got by Lakers Gaming 76-68; Hawks Talon GC narrowly got by NetsGC 84-82; Heat Check Gaming beat NBL Oz Gaming 93-69; Kings Guard Gaming took down Pistons GT 87-80; and Gen.G Tigers knocked off the Hawks 83-66.
