76ers GC rallied past the Gen.G Tigers 2-1 to win the Eastern Conference finals in the NBA 2K League’s 5v5 The Tipoff event on Friday in Washington, setting up a championship match against T-Wolves Gaming.
The T-Wolves, who are two-time defending champions of the tournament, swept Grizz Gaming 2-0 in the Western Conference finals.
The Tigers opened with a 65-59 win, but the 76ers roared back to prevail 69-61 and 64-57 in the last two games.
Damon “DJ” Jones paced the 76ers with averages of 19.7 points and 6.7 rebounds while hitting 90 percent of his field-goal attempts. Teammate Andre “Dre” Marshall contributed 12.3 points and 7.7 assists per game.
The T-Wolves made quick work of the Grizz, winning 73-53 and 82-71. Michael “BearDaBeast” Key notched 20 points and 13 assists per game for the T-Wolves, who also got 23.5 points per game from Dhwan “ShiftyKaii” White.
The championship match of the $250,000 tournament is scheduled for Saturday, with the winning team set to make $100,000 and the runner-up due to receive $50,000.
The NBA 2K League 5v5 season will include three tournaments — The Tipoff, The Turn and The Ticket — that will set the field for the playoffs, scheduled for Aug. 2-5 in Washington.
Remote group play in The Tipoff set the field for this week’s remote bracket play. The tournament is concluding with in-person tournament play at District E in Washington.
