DUX Gaming selected Mario “avemario” Ortega Ariza with the first pick in the NBA 2K League expansion draft on Wednesday.

DUX, a Mexican team that will be the first NBA 2K League club based in Latin America, also added Brian “Killeyy” Diaz and Brentathan “Lord Beezus” Aasgaard.

avemario was a rookie last season with Cavs Legion GC.

He said of going to DUX, “It’s an honor that they put all their confidence in me, not just to be in the franchise but to be the first one picked. I’m excited to start working.”

Killeyy was formerly with Heat Check Gaming, and Lord Beezus was with Jazz Gaming.

Each of the 23 existing NBA 2K League teams had to expose players for DUX to consider in the expansion draft. DUX was required to select at least two players. By choosing a third, the new team forfeits its third-round pick in the standard 2022 NBA 2K League Draft.

During the expansion draft, two trades were announced.

Lakers Gaming sent the fourth overall pick in the 2022 draft to Bucks Gaming in exchange for Reginald “Regg” Nash. Also, 76ers GC dealt Dayne “OneWildWalnut” Downey and two second-round draft picks to Kings Guard Gaming for Yusuf “Yusuf_Scarbz” Abdulla and two first-round draft choices.
