Former Houston Rockets head coach Stephen Silas has agreed to become the top assistant coach on Monty Williams’ new staff in Detroit, ESPN reported Monday.

The Rockets in April declined Silas’ option for 2023-24, ending his three-year tenure with a 59-177 record. The Rockets subsequently hired Ime Udoka to replace Silas.

Williams reportedly agreed to a deal last week that will reward him with the richest contract ever for an NBA head coach — six years and $78.5 million, with options that could push it north of $100 million.

Silas, 49, has previously been a top assistant with Dallas, Charlotte and Golden State.
