Dallas Mavericks standout guard Kyrie Irving suffered a season-ending torn ACL in his left knee, ESPN reported on Tuesday.

Irving, 32, was injured on a play in which he was fouled while driving to the hoop during the first quarter of Monday’s 122-98 loss to the Sacramento Kings. He awkwardly landed on the court, immediately grabbed his left leg and called out for assistance.

Irving stayed in the game to make both free throws before exiting with 2:35 left in the quarter. He was ruled out a short time later.

A nine-time All-Star, Irving is averaging 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists in 50 games (all starts) this season.

Irving’s injury comes during a tumultuous time for the Mavericks (32-30), who traded star Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers just more than a month ago. Dallas resides in 10th place in the Western Conference.

Anthony Davis, obtained in the Doncic trade, sustained a groin injury Feb. 8 in his first game and hasn’t played since. The Mavericks have been the recipients of severe backlash over the deal and Dallas fans have often expressed their displeasure with the trade.
