The Denver Nuggets announced a multiyear contract extension for coach Michael Malone on Wednesday.
His existing contract was set to expire at the end of the 2022-23 season. Terms were not disclosed.
Malone, 50, has compiled a record of 309-237 in seven seasons with the Nuggets.
Denver reached the Western Conference semifinals in 2019 and 2021 and made the West finals in 2020, losing to the eventual NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers in five games.
“This extension is well deserved for Coach Malone and one we are very excited to announce,” Nuggets owner Stan Kroenke said in a news release. “You can easily point to the on-court success that Michael has brought and the improvements the team has made each year under his watch, and you can also point to the selfless, hard-working culture that has developed and grown during his tenure.
“We look forward to Coach Malone continuing on the sidelines as we all work toward our goal of bringing an NBA championship to the city of Denver.”
Malone’s 309 career victories are third in franchise history behind Doug Moe (432) and George Karl (423).
Denver is 43-30 this season, sixth in the Western Conference, despite playing the entire season without guard Jamal Murray, who tore his left ACL in April. Small forward Michael Porter Jr. underwent back surgery in December and played only nine games this season.
