NBA: Knicks hang on for tight win over Hawks

Julius Randle scored a game-high 29 points to go along with 10 rebounds and eight assists while leading the visiting New York Knicks to a 116-114 win over the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday.

Jalen Brunson added 24 points on 6-for-10 3-point shooting for the Knicks, who won their second game in as many tries against the Hawks this season. Immanuel Quickley also put in 20 for the Knicks, who have four victories in their past five games overall.

Bogdan Bogdanovic led the Hawks with a season-high 28 points. Jalen Johnson totaled 18 points, going a perfect 4-for-4 from 3-point range. Saddiq Bey added 16 for Atlanta, which has alternated wins and losses for six games.

New York led by three points with 4.7 seconds left when the Knicks’ Donte DiVincenzo committed a five-second violation that gave Atlanta a chance to tie the game.

Brunson intentionally fouled Dejounte Murray on the ensuing inbound, who split a pair of free throws, and New York eventually dribbled out the final seconds.

After Atlanta held a seven-point lead with 5:20 remaining in the fourth quarter, the Knicks finished the game on a 22-13 run.

Julius Randle made a layup with 43 seconds left to give New York a 112-110 edge. After Atlanta’s Trae Young made 1 of 2 foul shots, Brunson sank a jumper on the next possession.

Atlanta cut into a 13-point second-quarter deficit and trailed just 57-56 at the break.

Bogdanovic keyed the Hawks’ turnaround, scoring 10 of his 15 first-half-points in the second quarter. Teammate Jalen Johnson added 13 points before intermission on 3-for-3 long-range shooting.

Randle led the Knicks with 16 points in the first half — 14 coming in the first quarter.

New York was without RJ Barrett, who missed his second consecutive game while dealing with migraines. Entering Wednesday, Barrett was tied with Brunson for the team’s leading scorer at 22.6 points per game.

The two teams won’t meet again until March 5 in New York.
