The Philadelphia 76ers extended president of basketball operations Daryl Morey’s contract through 2027-28, the team announced Friday.

Including a 16-7 record entering Friday, the Sixers have compiled a .653 winning percentage since hiring Morey in November 2020. Philadelphia reached the Eastern Conference semifinals in each of his first three seasons.

“Daryl is one of the best front office executives in sports and I greatly value his leadership,” 76ers managing partner Josh Harris said in a news release. “I’m thrilled to have reached an agreement to extend his contract and look forward to working together to maximize our chances of competing for an NBA title.”

Morey, 51, previously served as the general manager of the Houston Rockets from 2007-20 and was named the NBA Executive of the Year for the 2017-18 season.

“I want to express my appreciation to Josh Harris and David Blitzer for their unwavering support and confidence. Together, we are committed to bringing a championship to Philadelphia,” Morey said. “I love this franchise and the relationship my family and I have built with our fans and this city. There’s no place I’d rather continue this journey than here.”

His most notable moves of 2023 include firing head coach Doc Rivers in May, hiring replacement Nick Nurse in June and trading disgruntled star James Harden to the Los Angeles Clippers on Nov. 1.

Financial terms of Morey’s extension were not disclosed.
