The Philadelphia Union acquired defender Ian Glavinovich on Friday on a year-long loan from Newell’s Old Boys of Argentina’s top flight.

The deal includes a club option for a permanent transfer for the 23-year-old center back, an Argentina native who will occupy an international roster slot.

“Ian is a robust, fast, center back who’s skillset matches what we are looking for in that position,” Union sporting director Ernst Tanner said. “He is defensively sound and has a lot of quality on the ball. With room for development, I believe he can make an immediate impact on our backline, and we look forward to welcoming him to the club.”

Glavinovich has recorded one assist in 30 appearances for Newell’s Old Boys since 2022.
