Jordan Morris scored three minutes after his team took the lead through a second-half own goal and the Seattle Sounders preserved a 2-1 victory at St. Louis City on Saturday night.

Albert Rusnak assisted on Morris’ third goal of the season and was also involved in the opening tally, ultimately credited to St. Louis defender Kyle Hiebert.

The win made Seattle (4-6-5, 17 points) the first team to win two regular-season fixtures in St. Louis, after earning a 2-0 victory in City’s 2023 expansion season.

Tomas Totland scored a late goal for St. Louis (3-4-7, 16 points), which has lost three in a row for the first time in its brief club history.

Eduard Lowen provided the cross that led to that goal after entering the game in the 70th minute. It was his first action since revealing two weeks ago that his wife had been diagnosed with advanced brain cancer.

Seattle’s first goal came in the 66th minute after an opening 20 minutes of the second half in which the home side created most of the pressure.

Cristian Roldan took a pass on the right flank from Rusnak and tried to hit a cross in the direction of striker Raul Ruidiaz.

Hiebert tried to block it with an outstretched leg and instead redirected the ball over goalkeeper Roman Burki.

Three minutes later, it was Ruidiaz laying the ball off to Rusnak, who then sent a through ball that met Morris in stride sprinting behind the St. Louis back line.

Morris did the rest, finishing low to the stranded Burki’s right for his second goal in as many games.

Totland scored in the 82nd minute when he had the last touch on Lowen’s cross from the left, on a ball that Hiebert also appeared to get a touch to.

Joao Klauss struck the far post with his shot deep in second-half stoppage time that would’ve given St. Louis a dramatic equalizer and a reprieve from its recent struggles.
