Colorado Rapids midfielder Braian Galvan underwent surgery to repair a torn right anterior cruciate ligament, which will leave him sidelined for at least nine months, the team announced Tuesday.

The procedure was deemed successful, according to the team, and also addressed medial and lateral meniscus damage. Per the Rapids, Galvan will begin rehabilitation in Colorado soon.

“This injury is a real blow for the club and Braian, who was coming off a strong 2021 and a fantastic start to preseason this year,” Rapids general manager Padraig Smith said in a statement. “While we’re devastated for Braian, we’re pleased to hear the procedure went well. Given his determination, we expect Braian to make a full recovery and as he continues on his path to being a key part of the club’s future.”

Galvan, a21-year-old Argentina native, has played two seasons with the Rapids after joining the team in July 2020, transferring from Club Atletico Colon in his home country. He posted two goals along with three assists in 24 games (14 starts) last season for Colorado.

In his two seasons with the Rapids, Galvan has three goals and four assists in 33 regular-season matches played (16 starts).
