Petar Musa scored an equalizing goal in the 60th minute as visiting FC Dallas played to a 1-1 draw with Atlanta United on Saturday night.
Musa’s third goal of the season tied Lucho Acosta’s team lead as Dallas (3-2-2, 11 points) picked up at least a point for the third straight game, following one-score wins over Sporting Kansas City and Real Salt Lake. Dallas had nine shot attempts Saturday, with just two coming on goal.
Miguel Almiron accounted for Atlanta’s only offense. His first-half goal was his second of the year, and the second since his first stint in Atlanta that ended in 2018. Atlanta (2-2-3, 9 points) had possession for 58 percent of the game, but finished with just two shots on goal of its 11 total attempts. Atlanta also picked up points for the third straight game after tying with FC Cincinnati then earning a 4-3 victory last week over New York City FC.
Trailing 1-0 after halftime, FC Dallas evened the score on Musa’s goal in the 60th minute, as he slipped one by a sprawling Brad Guzan.
Atlanta star Emmanuel Latte Lath was given a yellow card in the 84th minute for a hard foul on Dallas rookie Nolan Norris. Four minutes after Musa’s foul, Atlanta’s Jamal Thiare had a header that just missed the mark after Aleksey Miranchuk’s cross, the final offensive threat for either side.
Atlanta struck first on Almiron’s penalty goal, which was a result of Dallas’ Osaze Urhoghide’s foul in the box in the 17th minute.
Atlanta outshot Dallas, six to four, in the first half, with each club getting one on goal, while United held possession for 52 percent of the opening 45 minutes.
Dallas is back at home next week against the Seattle Sounders, while Atlanta will host its third straight at Mercedes-Benz Stadium next Saturday against the New England Revolution.
