New York City FC announced the signing Monday of Serbian defender Strahinja Tanasijevic through the 2025 season plus two option years.

The 26-year-old arrives from FK Spartak Subotica in the Serbian Super Liga, where he appeared in 17 matches and tallied one assist in 2023.

“We would like to welcome Strahinja to New York. He’s an experienced player who will bolster our backline and give us more depth and competition,” NYCFC sporting director David Lee said. “Strahinja is quick, aggressive and can play a high line, which suits our style of play. He’s a player who is entering the prime of his career and know he’s excited about the opportunity to play in Major League Soccer.”

Tanasijevic has played professionally in Italy and France in addition to his native Serbia.
