MLS: New York City FC acquire Bundesliga M Hannes Wolf

New York City FC announced the signing of Austrian midfielder Hannes Wolf on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old arrives from Borussia Monchengladbach of the German Bundesliga.

Wolf’s contract runs through 2027 with an option for 2028. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

He registered five goals and three assists in 69 matches for Monchengladbach from 2021-23.

“We are excited to welcome Hannes to New York. Despite only being 24 years old, Hannes has already accumulated fantastic experience at top levels in Europe, having played in the Bundesliga, Champions League and Europa League which we know will add a lot to our squad,” NYCFC sporting director David Lee said. “He is a very creative, direct and versatile player, that also possesses a fantastic work-rate defensively, who can play across several positions in our attack.”

Wolf tallied 22 goals and 22 assists in 89 matches with Red Bull Salzburg in the Austrian Bundesliga from 2017-19. He played for Germany’s RB Leipzig from 2019-21 and spent time at England’s Swansea City in 2022.
