Brandon Vazquez completed a hat trick in the 73rd minute and FC Cincinnati earned a 3-1 win over visiting Chivas on Friday afternoon in the resumption of a suspended Leagues Cup group-stage match.

The match began Thursday night but was halted by a lightning storm in the 60th minute. Cincinnati led 2-0 at the time, with Vazquez having scored in the second and eighth minutes.

Antonio Briseno got Chivas on the board in the 61st minute, just after the match resumed Friday, but Vazquez earned his hat trick when he tapped Alvaro Barreal’s low cross into the net during the 73rd minute.

Barreal also assisted one of Vazquez’s goals Thursday night.

Chivas played the second half a man down after defender Gilberto Sepulveda earned a red card late in the first half.

FC Cincinnati clinched the top spot in the “Central 3” group with five points over two matches; they beat Sporting Kansas City in a penalty shootout in their first Leagues Cup match. Chivas are scheduled to play at Kansas City, Kan., on Monday.
