Los Angeles FC made another roster addition Thursday, acquiring goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau from the Vancouver Whitecaps for $1 million in general allocation money.

The Whitecaps also could land a 2025 first-round draft pick and conditional general allocation money based on Crepeau’s upcoming performance.

The deal for Crepeau, who is also a member of Canada’s national team, comes less than a week after LAFC landed U.S. men’s national team midfielder Kellyn Acosta from the Colorado Rapids for at least $1.1 million.

The cost for LAFC to land Crepeau was the most ever for a goalkeeper in MLS history.

“We are thrilled to add a goalkeeper of Maxime’s quality to our roster,” LAFC co-president and general manager John Thorrington said in a statement. “We consider Maxime to be one of the top goalkeepers in MLS. Like us, we know he is committed to winning, and his leadership and experience will contribute to our success on the field.”

Crepeau had a career-best six shutouts in 2021 in 27 starts and has 12 shutouts in 60 career MLS starts with CF Montreal (eight games in 2017) and the Whitecaps (2018-21). He also has made 14 appearances with Canada’s national team, which sits atop the CONCACAF World Cup qualifying standings after eight games.
