Host St. Louis City SC and banged-up FC Dallas battled to a scoreless draw Saturday night.
St. Louis (1-1-5, 8 points) gets back in the points column with the outcome. Dallas (1-4-1, 4 points) is now winless in its last five outings.
St. Louis took 26 shots, including seven on goal, but couldn’t solves FCD goalie Maarten Paes, who made seven saves.
The home side nearly stole a victory in the fifth minute of second-half stoppage time, as Celio Pompeu’s boot via a Joao Klauss headed pass was saved by Paes.
Three minutes prior, Tomas Ostrak missed from the right of the box and Samuel Adeniran’s try from a difficult spot sailed high before that.
Klauss was also off target to the right in the 87th and 78th minutes, while Dallas’ Petar Musa didn’t connect three minutes before the latter.
Dallas’ Paul Arriola’s injury, which forced him out of action in the 88th minute, caused a brief delay late in the second half.
The teams combined for just four shots on target in the first half. St. Louis finished with seven shots on goal to Dallas’ five.
Dallas’ came off the feet of Eugene Ansah (14th minute) and Dante Sealy (29th). Both were turned away by St. Louis keeper Roman Burki.
Indiana Vassilev’s try was blocked in the 34th minute before Paes saved Anthony Markanich’s right-footed shot in the bottom left corner. Tomas Totland aided that chance with a crosser.
Dallas’ Jesus Ferreira, the team’s top scorer over the past two seasons, and midfielder Asier Illarramendi were both out with injuries.
