New York City FC traded goalkeeper Luis Barraza to D.C. United on Monday in exchange for up to $150,000 in general allocation money.

NYCFC is guaranteed $50,000 in general allocation money for 2025, while another $100,000 is tied to performance metrics.

Barraza, 28, was NYCFC’s longest-tenured player after being selected 12th overall in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft.

“We would like to thank Luis for his dedication and professionalism on-and-off the field since he’s joined New York City,” NYCFC sporting director David Lee said in a statement. “Luis has contributed significantly to the successes of the club over the last years. We are pleased for him to have this opportunity to take the next step in his career in D.C. and we wish him the very best.”

In 30 regular-season appearances (29 starts) for New York City, Barraza recorded 70 saves and six clean sheets. He was the club’s primary goalkeeper in 2023 but played in just four matches in 2024 (one start).

Barraza was named Man of the Match when he helped New York City win the 2022 Campeones Cup, a 2-0 victory over Liga MX side Atlas.

“I would like to thank New York City FC, all my teammates and staff throughout the years for helping me develop as a professional,” Barraza said in a statement. “I fondly remember winning MLS Cup and Campeones Cup and helping bring joy to our passionate fans. I look forward to the next challenge in my career and wish the club and my teammates all the best in the upcoming season.”
