The Columbus Crew and coach Wilfried Nancy agreed to a contract extension, the club announced Wednesday.

Terms of the deal with the 47-year-old Frenchman were not disclosed.

Hired in December 2022, Nancy guided the Crew to the MLS Cup championship in his first season in 2023. He became the first Black head coach to win a league title.

“In addition to winning MLS Cup last year, we are excited to extend Wilfried’s contract because of the culture he has helped create within the Club, including our shared commitment to developing individuals both as players and as people, within the overall Crew ‘One Club’ philosophy,” president and general manager Tim Bezbatchenko said in a news release.

Nancy is 24-10-13 with Columbus, including a 3-1-4 start to the 2024 season. Last week, he directed the Crew to the franchise’s first Concacaf Champions Cup semifinals berth.

“We have a clear vision as a Club of what we want to do and how we can achieve it, and we can continue to write our story and evoke emotions,” Nancy said. “With humility, I’m very proud of what we have accomplished together during the past year, but most importantly, I am pleased with how we are focused on growing together and working to improve as a team and individuals.”

Including his time as the head coach of CF Montreal from 2021-22, Nancy is 51-30-28 in MLS regular season play and 6-2-0 in postseason competition.
