The Chicago Fire signed defender Carlos Teran to a new contract, the team announced Saturday.

The 22-year-old Colombian is signed through the 2026 season with a club option for 2027.

Financial terms were not released.

Teran joined the Fire in 2020 and has three goals in 45 MLS matches (38 starts), including one goal this season.

“Over the past year, Carlos has established himself as a competitor and starter for our Club,” said Chicago sporting director Georg Heitz. “His dedication and commitment demonstrate his desire to continue developing, and over time we believe he can be one of the best center backs in the league.”

Teran scored in the 38th minute of the Fire’s 3-2 road win against Inter Miami CF on March 25.
