Charlotte FC acquired veteran midfielder Eryk Williamson from the Portland Timbers on Wednesday.

The Timbers receive up to $350,000 in general allocation money in exchange and will retain a sell-on percentage if Williamson is transferred outside of MLS.

Williamson, 27, recorded six goals and 20 assists in 98 MLS matches (60 starts) with the Timbers from 2019-24.

“He competed and broke through here as a young player, overcame difficult moments and returned from challenging injuries, all to continue finding a way to make an impact on the field,” Timbers general manager Ned Grabavoy said. “… The Portland Timbers wish Eryk all the best with the new opportunity and this next phase of his career.”

Portland will receive $100,000 in 2025 GAM and an additional $250,000 if certain incentives are met.

“Eryk is a player who our front office and coaches know very well and brings proven MLS production to our midfield,” Charlotte general manager Zoran Krneta said. “He is a versatile player who is creative and dynamic on the ball which combined with his knowledge of the league makes him an excellent fit for our team. He’s won titles at both the club and national team level, and we’re excited to welcome him to Charlotte.”

Williamson helped the Timbers win the 2020 MLS is Back Tournament. He also helped the U.S. Men’s National Team win 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup.

“As I prepare to say goodbye to this incredible city, I find myself reflecting on the past seven years with immense gratitude and pride,” Williamson said. “From the very first moment I stepped onto the field at Providence Park, I felt the love and passion of this community, and I’ll carry that with me for the rest of my career and beyond.”
