Matias Coccaro’s goal in the 79th minute canceled out Brian White’s first-half tally as CF Montreal rallied for a 1-1 draw against the visiting Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday.

Montreal (5-9-8, 23 points) bounced back from a 2-0 road loss against New York City FC on Wednesday by extending its home unbeaten streak to six matches (2-0-4). The Whitecaps (9-7-5, 32 points), 3-1 winners at Minnesota United on Wednesday, failed to extend their winning streak but are 2-0-1 over their past three matches.

Coccaro scored his fourth goal of the season off an assist from Ruan, who raced down the right flank and delivered a cross to the forward. The resulting header deflected off the hands of Vancouver goalkeeper Yohei Takaoka and went past the goal line as CF Montreal leveled the match.

White, who entered Saturday having scored four times in his past two matches, continued his hot streak with a goal in the 29th minute. He put a low cross from Ryan Gauld past Montreal goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois for his 10th goal of the season to give the Whitecaps a 1-0 lead.

Vancouver nearly doubled its lead in the 57th minute, but an Alessandro Schopf shot was cleared off the goal line by CF Montreal’s Fernando Alvarez.

That missed opportunity would come back to haunt the Whitecaps, as Montreal continued to push for the equalizer, finally finding it through Coccaro’s header.

Deep into second-half stoppage time, Josef Martinez had a chance to score the go-ahead goal for CF Montreal, but his attempt just missed near the far post, and the match ended with the two teams each coming away with a point.

Montreal held a 16-14 edge in shots, with Vancouver finishing with a 5-3 advantage in shots on target. Sirois ended the night with three saves, while Takaoka had two.
