X-rays came back negative on the left hand of Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Max Muncy after he was hit by a pitch in the first inning of the team’s Cactus League game Wednesday, USA Today reported.

Muncy stayed in the game but was removed before his second at bat in the top of the fourth inning.

Muncy was hit by Texas Rangers starter Cody Bradford. Muncy, who was batting third, was replaced in the lineup and at third base by Austin Gauthier, who went 2-for-3. Muncy is 3-for-6 with one home run and two RBIs during spring training.

Muncy signed a two-year, $24 million contract extension with the Dodgers in November.

Muncy batted .212 with a career-high-tying 36 home runs and a career-best 105 RBIs in 135 games in 2023, his sixth season with the Dodgers. In eight MLB seasons with the Oakland Athletics (2015-16) and Los Angeles (2018-23), Muncy is a career .227 hitter with 180 home runs and 489 RBIs.

Muncy’s 175 home runs in a Dodgers uniform rank sixth in Los Angeles history, two behind Hall of Famer Mike Piazza for fifth place.

Muncy spent most of 2023 at third base but has also played first and second.
