The Chicago White Sox announced Saturday that they have claimed right-handed pitcher Enyel De Los Santos off waivers from the New York Yankees.

To make room on the 40-man roster, Chicago also recalled right-handed pitcher Gus Varland from its Triple-A club, while placing Mike Clevinger on the 60-day injured list and Steven Wilson on the 15-day IL.

De Los Santos, 28, appeared in five games for the Yankees from Aug. 2 through Aug. 12, compiling a 14.21 ERA. Before that, he saw action in 44 games (no starts) with the San Diego Padres, surrendering a 4.46 ERA with 39 hits allowed and 48 strikeouts over 40 and 1/3 innings.

The Yankees gave up on the veteran after a disastrous start against, coincidentally enough, the White Sox. On Aug. 12, he surrendered eight hits and seven earned runs in 1 2/3 innings of a 12-2 loss.

The Dominican Republic native holds a 4.52 ERA throughout his six-year career.

Varland, 27, holds a 3.00 ERA over seven appearances (no starts) this season. The White Sox claimed him off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers earlier this month.

Clevinger, a 33-year-old right-hander, underwent season-ending neck surgery this month after he posted an 0-3 mark (6.75 ERA) over four starts.

Wilson, 29, also a right-hander, holds a 1-6 record in 2024 with a 5.71 ERA.
