The Detroit Tigers optioned first baseman Spencer Torkelson to Triple-A Toledo on Sunday afternoon.

The Tigers made this move shortly after Sunday’s game against the host Cleveland Guardians was postponed due to inclement weather. That game was rescheduled as part of a doubleheader on Aug. 15.

Torkelson, the first overall pick of the 2020 MLB Draft, has struggled since making the Tigers’ Opening Day roster this season. The 22-year-old is hitting just .197 with five homers and 21 RBIs in 83 games.

Torkelson had 30 homers and 91 RBIs across three levels of minor league baseball in 2021.
