The Colorado Rockies reinstated outfielder Kris Bryant from the injured list prior to Friday’s home game against the Detroit Tigers.
Bryant, 31, has been away from the Rockies since May 30 due to a foot injury. He is batting .263 with five homers and 17 RBIs in 50 games this season.
The 2016 National League MVP with the Chicago Cubs is in his second season with the Rockies and hasn’t come close to meeting the expectations that accompany a seven-year, $182 million deal.
Bryant played in just 42 games last season as he dealt with back and left foot injuries. The latter setback included a rough bout with plantar fasciitis that prevented him from playing after July 31.
The four-time All-Star reinjured his left foot on a foul ball during a May 30 game at Arizona.
Bryant is a career .279 hitter with 177 homers and 518 RBIs in 976 games with the Cubs (2015-21), San Francisco Giants (2021) and Rockies.
Colorado also promoted left-hander Ty Blach from Triple-A Albuquerque, placed right-hander Matt Carasiti (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list and designated catcher Jorge Alfaro for assignment.
Blach, 32, had an 8.18 ERA in six appearances for the Rockies earlier this season. He is 17-22 with a 5.19 ERA in 122 appearances (45 starts) with the San Francisco Giants (2016-19), Baltimore Orioles (2019) and Rockies (2022-23).
Carasiti, 31, is 1-0 with a 7.06 ERA in 14 relief appearances for Colorado. Overall, he is 2-1 with a 7.28 ERA in 44 appearances (five starts) with the Rockies (2016, 2023) and Seattle Mariners (2019).
Alfaro, 30, is batting .161 with one homer and four RBIs in 10 games for the Rockies. He has a .254 career average with 48 homers and 198 RBIs in 488 games with the Philadelphia Phillies (2016-18), Miami Marlins (2019-21), San Diego Padres (2022) and Rockies.
