The New York Mets and first baseman Pete Alonso agreed to a one-year, $14.5 million deal for 2023 to avoid arbitration, MLB.com and ESPN reported Friday night.
It marks the largest agreement for an arbitration-eligible first baseman in league history, per ESPN.
Alonso, 28, has one more year of arbitration eligibility before he would reach free agency following 2024.
Alonso led the major leagues in 2022 with 131 RBIs to go with 40 home runs, 27 doubles and a career-best .271 batting average.
The slugger led the major leagues in 2019 with 53 home runs and won National League Rookie of the Year that season. In 530 career games across four seasons with New York, Alonso has hit 146 homers, 90 doubles and 380 RBIs while batting .261 with a .349 on-base percentage and a .535 slugging percentage.
Other Mets arbitration decisions still need to be made on catcher Tomas Nido, infielder Jeff McNeil, left-hander Joey Lucchesi, right-hander Elieser Hernandez, right-hander Drew Smith, infielder Luis Guillorme and right-hander Jeff Brigham.
