Free agent shortstop Tim Anderson agreed to a one-year, $5 million deal with the Miami Marlins, according to multiple reports on Thursday.

Anderson was a two-time All-Star with the Chicago White Sox, who declined his $14 million club option for 2024.

The 30-year-old was American League batting champion in 2019 (.335) but his production declined significantly after a sprained knee in April 2023 kept him out of the lineup for nearly one month.

Anderson hit .245 with one home run and 25 RBIs in 2023.

He hasn’t played more than 123 games in a season since 2019 and averaged almost a strikeout per game last season (122 strikeouts).
