The New York Yankees and Jacoby Ellsbury have reportedly settled their contract dispute, according to a report from the New York Post.

In 2019, it was reported that the Yankees would withhold $26 million owed to Ellsbury after the team released the outfielder. That dispute arose because Ellsbury used a non-team rehab facility while attempting to recover from multiple injuries.

That $26 million was his salary in 2020, the final year of his guaranteed deal.

The settlement, which reportedly occurred at least a year ago, helped both parties avoid a grievance hearing, which was set in motion by the MLBPA on Ellsbury’s behalf.

Ellsbury, 38, hasn’t played since 2017, missing 2018-19 due to injuries. A torn hip labrum surgery in 2018 led to rehab, which then resulted in the dispute.

Over six seasons with the Yankees (four in uniform), Ellsbury batted .264 with 39 home runs and 198 RBIs, after previously batting .297 with 65 home runs and 314 RBIs in seven years playing for the Boston Red Sox.
