The Boston Red Sox added newly acquired right-hander Lucas Sims to their roster among a series of moves on Wednesday.

The Red Sox acquired Sims from the Cincinnati Reds ahead of the trade deadline on Tuesday along with right-hander Luis Garcia. The club will add Garcia to the roster Thursday or Friday.

The Red Sox designated veteran right-hander Yohan Ramirez for assignment to make room on the roster for Sims. Ramirez appeared in just one game for Boston after being selected off waivers Sunday.

The Red Sox also called up infielder Nick Sogard from Worcester and optioned infielder Jamie Westbrook to the Triple-A club.

Sims, 30, went 1-4 with a 3.57 ERA and one save in 43 appearances out of the Cincinnati bullpen this season.

Sogard’s first appearance will mark his major league debut. The 26-year-old is slashing .279/.382/.439 at Worcester this season with 12 home runs, 17 doubles and 54 RBIs. He’s not in Wednesday’s lineup against the Seattle Mariners.

Westbrook, 29, batted .150 with two HRs and seven RBIs in 21 games in his rookie campaign.

Ramirez, 29, pitched 1 1/3 innings on Tuesday and gave up three runs (two earned). The Red Sox were his fourth team already in 2024. He’s pitched for eight teams in his major league career, compiling a 6-9 record with a 4.58 ERA.
