Even amid a scorching-hot start, the Tampa Bay Rays are looking for more, adding a piece to their bullpen Saturday by acquiring right-hander Javy Guerra from the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Brewers will receive a player to be named later or cash in the deal for the 27-year-old Guerra, who was off to a slow start with an 8.64 ERA in eight appearances, while opponents batted .303 against him.

Guerra was designated for assignment by the Brewers on Monday.

Guerra was also acquired by the Rays in April of last season in a deal with the San Diego Padres. He went 2-1 with a 3.38 ERA in 17 appearances for the Rays last season, while going up and down between the major leagues and Triple-A Durham. He was designated for assignment by Tampa Bay in November then traded to the Brewers.

In parts of five major league seasons for the Padres, Rays and Brewers, the converted shortstop is 3-1 with a 6.92 ERA in 52 relief appearances.

The Rays opened the season on a 13-game winning streak and headed into play Saturday with a major league-best 22-5 record.
