Texas Rangers star shortstop Corey Seager is not in the starting lineup for Friday night’s home game against the San Francisco Giants due to his left hamstring injury.

Seager doesn’t need a stint on the 10-day injured list, according to manager Bruce Bochy. However, Bochy expects Seager will “miss a couple games.”

Seager was injured while running the bases during Wednesday’s victory over the Detroit Tigers. He jogged prior to Friday’s game and Bochy said the two-time World Series MVP is “not quite ready.”

To that end, Texas recalled infielder Davis Wendzel from Triple-A Round Rock on Friday. Wendzel, 27, batted .069 (2-for-29) in 17 games with the Rangers earlier this season.

“It may be a couple of days,” Bochy said of Seager’s situation. “We needed to cover ourselves in the infield.”

Josh Smith is starting at shortstop against the Giants on Friday.

Seager, 30, has reached base in a career-best 28 consecutive games and is batting .271 with 13 homers and 30 RBIs in 57 games this season.

Texas also designated outfielder Derek Hill for assignment. Hill, 28, was 2-for-9 in five games with the Rangers.
