Texas Rangers All-Star shortstop Corey Seager was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a sprained right thumb.
The Rangers recalled catcher Sam Huff from Triple-A Round Rock. In a separate move, Texas recalled right-hander Yerry Rodriguez from Round Rock, while right-hander Grant Anderson was optioned to Triple-A.
An MRI on Seager’s thumb Saturday showed no structural damage and he is expected to miss at least two weeks of action while staying away from baseball activities for at least a week. X-rays were negative Friday.
Seager sustained the injury after diving headfirst into second base on a double in the eighth inning of Rangers’ 11-5 loss to the Dodgers on Friday. He finished 2-for-3 with a solo home run in his first game against his former team.
The 29-year-old is batting .350 with 15 home runs and 58 RBIs. He missed 31 games earlier this season with a left hamstring strain.
Seager, who spent the first seven seasons of his career with the Dodgers, signed a 10-year, $325 million contract with the Rangers prior to the 2022 season. The 2016 National League Rookie of the Year is a career .292 hitter with 152 home runs and 505 RBIs.
Huff, 25, was batting .167 in seven games with the Rangers earlier this season and is a .256 hitter in 61 games over three seasons with Texas.
Rodriguez, 25, had a 3.12 ERA in 10 relief outings for the Rangers earlier this season, while Anderson, 26, was 1-1 with a 5.20 ERA in 19 relief outings for the club after making his major league debut May 30.
