The Texas Rangers promoted Ross Fenstermaker to general manager on Monday.

The team also hired Cole Figueroa as assistant general manager and Justin Viele as hitting coach.

Fenstermaker, 38, has spent the past three years as vice president/assistant general manager for player development and international operations. He has been with the organization since a 2010 internship, working mostly in the scouting department.

The Rangers promoted former GM Chris Young to president of baseball operations in September.

Figueroa, 37, joins Texas after eight seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays, including the last three as their director of baseball operations.

Viele, 33, spent the past five seasons as a hitting coach for the San Francisco Giants. He replaces Tim Hyers, who left the Rangers last month to take the same position with the Atlanta Braves.
