The Texas Rangers activated All-Star shortstop Corey Seager from the 10-day injured prior to Wednesday’s game against the Chicago White Sox.

Seager has been sidelined since sustaining a right thumb sprain on July 21 in a game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Seager is in the lineup against the White Sox, playing shortstop and batting second.

In his second season with the Rangers, Seager is batting .350 with 15 home runs and 58 RBIs in 66 games. The 29-year-old has been an All-Star in both of his seasons in Texas.

A veteran of nine major league seasons, Seager is a career .292 hitter with 152 home runs and 505 RBIs in 853 games for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Rangers.

Rangers utility player Brad Miller (hamstring strain) went on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. Miller, 33, is batting .214 with one homer and six RBIs in 27 games this season.

Texas also received a positive recovery timetable for All-Star catcher Jonah Heim.

Heim, 28, was potentially lost for the season with a strained left wrist that occurred last week. Now the club is optimistic that Heim can return to help the cause before the regular season concludes. He is expected to resume baseball activities within the next few weeks.

Heim was batting .280 with 14 home runs and 70 RBIs to earn his first All-Star nod. In four major league seasons, the last three with the Rangers, he is a career .235 hitter with 40 home runs and 155 RBIs in 312 games.

With Heim ailing, Texas acquired veteran catcher Austin Hedges from the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday and formally added him to the roster on Wednesday. Outfielder Bubba Thompson, who is 9-for-53 (.170) in 37 games with the Rangers, was sent to Round Rock.

The Rangers were also busy bolstering the pitching staff in advance of Tuesday’s trade deadline, adding veteran starters Max Scherzer and Jordan Montgomery, while also adding left-hander Aroldis Chapman and right-hander Chris Stratton to the bullpen.
