Ranger Suarez pitched six effective innings and the Philadelphia Phillies racked up a season-high 17 hits while defeating the host Seattle Mariners 9-0 on Monday in the opener of a three-game interleague series.

Jean Segura and Rhys Hoskins hit back-to-back home runs in the second inning for the Phillies, who earned their second win in seven games.

Suarez (3-1) allowed four hits, walked two and struck out a season-high seven batters. Francisco Morales fanned three in two scoreless innings, and James Norwood tossed a 1-2-3 ninth to complete a four-hitter.

Rookie Julio Rodriguez went 3-for-4 with a double, but that was the lone highlight for the Mariners, who lost for the 11th time in their past 13 games.

Mariners right-hander Chris Flexen (1-5) allowed more than three runs for the first time in six starts this season. Flexen went five innings and gave up six runs on nine hits with one walk and five strikeouts.

Segura, who played in Seattle in 2017 and ’18, opened the scoring with one out in the second, lining a 2-0 pitch over the center field wall. Hoskins followed by going deep to left on a 1-2 count.

The Phillies added a run in the third. With two outs, Nick Castellanos doubled to center and J.T. Realmuto grounded a run-scoring single to left to make it 3-0.

Philadelphia doubled the advantage with a three-run fifth.

Alec Bohm grounded a one-out single through the right side of the infield, and Bryce Harper followed with a line-drive single to right. Castellanos doubled again, this time to right-center, scoring Bohm. Realmuto hit a bloop single down the left field line to make it 5-0, and Segura grounded into a forceout to score the final run of the inning.

Philadelphia added three more runs off reliever Diego Castillo in the seventh. With one out, Harper lined a single to right, stole second and scored on Castellanos’ single to left. Castellanos advanced on a passed ball and scored on Segura’s single to right.

Segura, who took second on the throw home, scored on Hoskins’ single to center to make it 9-0.
